Taipei Zoo celebrates panda Yuan Bao
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Zoo marked a special occasion on Friday (June 28) as Yuan Bao (圓寶), the beloved panda, turned four years old. The zoo celebrated with a unique birthday cake made from her favorite fruits and ingredients, captivating visitors with an adorable display of her eating.
The zookeepers designed the cake with a keen understanding of Yuan Bao's dietary preferences, especially during her pseudo-pregnancy phase.
The cake featured a base of ice blocks topped with an assortment of Yuan Bao's favorite foods, such as grapes, kiwi, pineapple, sugarcane, carrots, and notably cantaloupe.
To accommodate her reduced appetite and ensure gastrointestinal comfort, the zoo has adjusted her diet, focusing on these preferred foods over her usual bamboo leaves.
As Yuan Bao steps into adulthood, her future mating prospects have sparked interest, with the zoo actively coordinating with China for a potential pairing.
The zookeepers also highlighted the importance of safety and training in panda care, emphasizing their strong attack capability despite their gentle appearance.
Through positive training methods, the zoo has successfully conducted medical procedures, including blood draws and ultrasound exams, ensuring the well-being of these cherished animals.
