TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid worldwide geopolitical and economic challenges, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te emphasized his ambition to position Taiwan as a leader in AI technology at the 7th Taiwan Future International Summit (台灣大未來) on Wednesday (June 26).

In his pre-recorded remarks, President Lai outlined plans to expand Taiwan's cloud infrastructure, data centers, and supercomputers. He focused on developing core generative AI technology and guiding small and medium-sized enterprises in utilizing AI tools. He stressed the potential for broader AI applications across industries.

The President also reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to achieving its net-zero emissions goals by 2050. He detailed the government's efforts to enhance wind and optoelectronic power generation, accelerate diversified green energy development, and build resilient smart power grids.

At the same summit, Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at Financial Times, analyzed the post-pandemic global economic landscape. Wolf underscored a surge in demand fueled by significant monetary and fiscal stimuli.

He referred to a World Trade Organization (WTO) chart illustrating shifts in global trade dynamics, highlighting a 10% reduction in trade among countries grouped by their proximity to China and Russia versus those aligned with Western powers.
