PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Balancing an egg upright is a tradition during the Dragon Boat Festival, but this year, Jiadong Pingtung had something special: balancing watermelons!
Jiadong, known as the "home of watermelon," first gained attention seven years ago when local young farmers promoted their agricultural products by balancing 139 watermelons. Now, the Farmers' Association oversees the event, and for NT$200, participants enjoyed the family-fun activity on Monday (June 11) and took a watermelon home.
The event's popularity has soared. "Our original plan was to balance 520 watermelons, but the tickets sold out in 30 seconds online. So we prepared 800 watermelons," Lin Shu-ling, director general of Jiadong Farmers' Association, said.
This creative event offers a unique way for people to unwind while highlighting Jiadong's high-quality agricultural products.
