TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Legislative Yuan passed amendments to the Law Governing the Legislative Yuan's Power (立法院職權行使法部分條文) and the addition of Chapter 5-1 and Article 141-1 to the Criminal Code of the Republic of China (中華民國刑法增訂第五章之一章名及第一百四十一條之一條文) on Wednesday (June 5). These amendments were promptly forwarded to the Executive Yuan for further scrutiny.

Executive Response

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) has tasked Lin Ming-Hsin (林明昕), a minister without portfolio, with assembling a team of scholars and experts. Their mission is to thoroughly review the amendments and engage in discussions to determine if constitutional procedures for relief are warranted. This directive underscores the government's commitment to ensuring legislative changes align with constitutional mandates.

Next Steps

According to Executive Yuan spokesperson Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱), the Executive Yuan received the Legislative Yuan's documents at approximately 2 p.m. on the same day. This swift action indicates the urgency and importance attached to these legislative amendments.

As the review process unfolds, the involvement of experts and scholars will be crucial in assessing the amendments' compliance with the constitution and their potential impact on Taiwan's legal framework.
