TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Yushan National Park (玉山國家公園) announced on Wednesday (June 5) that the Yushan trail was temporarily closed after days of heavy rainfall.
The park has dispatched a team to the site for emergency repairs, with the reopening date dependent on the progress of these efforts.
The continuous rain in the mountainous area has saturated the soil and rocks along the trail, leading to a landslide that has covered a 20-meter section of the trail at the 4.9-kilometer mark, rendering it impassable.
Bonkaer Haifangnan (邦卡兒.海放南), the deputy director of the National Park Service from the Yushan National Park Headquarters, stated, "The Yushan mountain area has recently experienced frequent heavy rainfall, which has already saturated the soil and rocks with water, increasing the risk of falling rocks."
"It's likely that last night's rain caused the landslide in the Baimulin area," he added.
At 6:25 a.m., park staff discovered the landslide and immediately reported it. The park management dispatched three workers to start the repair by removing some debris. Due to the extensive area affected, only a portion of the landslide could be cleared initially. The park plans to provide an update on the situation by noon today.
