TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) has vehemently denied rumors on Tuesday (June 4) of his interference in party affairs and support for specific candidates within the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨).

In a statement released to social media, Han clarified his position and commitment to neutrality in his role.

Han's statement came in response to recent media reports suggesting his backing for former Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei (周錫瑋) in the KMT chairmanship race and alleged alliances with Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) and Legislative Yuan Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣).

He emphasized that since assuming the office of Legislative Yuan Speaker (立法院長), his focus has remained solely on legislative affairs, without any involvement in party matters.

Han highlighted the legal requirement for his position to maintain impartiality, as dictated by the Organic Law of the Legislative Yuan, which prohibits holding any party position.

Expressing his frustration over the rumors, Han stated that the rumors about the party's internal election and affairs are completely unfounded.

His commitment to neutrality and the legislative process underscores the challenges of navigating political responsibilities while adhering to legal and ethical standards.

Han's clarification aims to dispel any doubts about his dedication to his role and the principles governing it.
