TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese tennis star Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and her Polish partner Jan Zielinski stormed into the quarterfinals of the French Open mixed doubles on Tuesday (June 4), delivering a swift defeat to the Italian-Russian duo of Andrea Vavassori and Liudmila Samsonova. The pair clinched their victory with scores of 6-0, 6-3 in just 52 minutes, showcasing their formidable partnership on the clay courts.

A Winning Partnership

Hsieh and Zielinski, who first teamed up at this year's Australian Open, have continued their successful collaboration, having won the mixed doubles title there. Their journey at the French Open began with a convincing win over a Czech team in the first round, propelling them into the last 16. Their performance against Vavassori and Samsonova was dominant from the start, securing the first set without losing a game and maintaining their momentum to win eight consecutive games.

Despite facing a comeback attempt from their opponents in the second set, Hsieh and Zielinski quickly regained control. After dropping their serve in the third game, they broke back immediately and went on to secure the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.

Looking Ahead

The duo's next challenge in the quarterfinals will be against the top-seeded Australian team of Ellen Perez and Matthew Ebden, promising a tough battle ahead. Meanwhile, Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and her Russian partner Veronika Kudermetova are also vying for a spot in the women's doubles quarterfinals, facing the American team of Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk on the same day.

As Hsieh and Zielinski prepare for their upcoming match, their performance so far signals a strong bid for the title, continuing their impressive run in Grand Slam mixed doubles competitions.
