Premier hosts dinner to boost executive-legislative ties (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant move to bolster communication between the executive and legislative branches, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) hosted a dinner for Democratic Progressive Party (民進黨, DPP) legislators on Monday (June 3).
The gathering, which lasted over two hours, focused on the four strategies to combat fraud and the three acts to optimize Hualien-Taitung traffic, highlighting the importance of unity in facing challenges.
During the meeting, Cho emphasized the necessity of sincere and well-intentioned communication, and a consensus was reached on the unity of the executive and legislative branches.
This meeting marked a departure from previous ones by including Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君) and heads of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Culture, among others.
DPP caucus secretary-general Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤) noted the new ministers' adept handling of policies despite having been in office for just over two weeks, facilitated by the close interactions during the dinner.
The anti-fraud acts emerged as a key topic, with the Executive Yuan prioritizing it for passage in the current legislative session. However, the Hualien-Taitung traffic acts faced scrutiny, with Transportation Minister Li Meng-yen (李孟諺) pointing out the lack of professional assessment and procedural difficulties.
The Legislative Yuan's Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Committee has scheduled a review of the "Money Laundering Control Act" amendment, which will be part of the anti-fraud acts addressed within the week.
Wu conveyed Cho's commitment to accelerating the review of positive, socially legitimate bills and addressing the impracticalities of controversial bills proposed by the opposition.
The push for "parliamentary empowerment" legislation within the party underscores the belief that only through executive-legislative unity can greater social energy be mobilized.
