Raymond Greene named new director of AIT Taipei office (AP)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced on Tuesday (May 28) that Raymond Greene, the deputy chief of mission of the United States Embassy in Japan, will succeed Sandra Oudkirk, the current director of the AIT Taipei office, who will step down this summer.

This marks Greene's third assignment in Taiwan, highlighting his extensive regional experience.

 


Greene, a seasoned diplomat with the U.S. Department of State, has dedicated the past 28 years to fostering diplomatic, economic, and security exchanges in the Indo-Pacific region. His previous roles include serving as the U.S. Consul General in Chengdu, China, and Okinawa, Japan, and holding political officer positions in Tokyo and Manila.

Greene's deep familiarity with Taiwan is further evidenced by his previous tenure as the Deputy Chief of the Political Section at AIT Taipei and as the Deputy Director of the Taipei office.

Greene, proficient in Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, is expected to play a crucial role in deepening the trilateral relations between the U.S., Japan, and Taiwan. His professional experience in the region positions him as a key figure in advancing mutual interests and fostering stronger connections.
 


As Greene prepares to assume his new role, his extensive background, and understanding of the intricacies of U.S.-Taiwan relations are anticipated to contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration and understanding between the U.S., Taiwan, and Japan.
