TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipower (台電) explained on Thursday (May 23) the morning power outage at the National Palace Museum's (國立故宮博物院) northern branch in Taipei's Shilin District (士林區) was caused by a damaged transmission line due to sewer construction work by the Taipei City Government.
The blackout, which occurred at 11:22 a.m., left approximately 12,000 households without electricity.
Taipower acted swiftly, restoring power within two minutes to affected areas, including the National Palace Museum. The incident forced the museum to use emergency lighting and promptly evacuate all visitors and staff.
The sudden loss of power disrupted the museum experience, casting the exhibition rooms into complete darkness. The museum's quick evacuation procedure ensured the safety of its visitors during the unexpected event.
