TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid recent controversies surrounding the legislative reform bill, Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Eric Chu on Wednesday (May 22) called on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to stop attempting to overpower the majority, replace counting heads with fists, and suppress legislative yuan with street power.

Chu further warned that resorting to violence over democracy could lead Taiwan back to its past and potentially spark a civil conflict within its democracy.

Chu emphasized the need for Taiwan's democracy to advance and for the legislative yuan to strengthen its reform efforts. Chu also highlighted efforts to push for reforms former President Tsai Ing-wen proposed during her tenure as DPP chairperson, including granting legislative yuan investigative and hearing powers.

Chu shared insights from his recent meetings with foreign dignitaries, where he exchanged the KMT's key propositions and underscored the party's prioritization of national interests. He criticized the DPP, as a modern ruling party, for defaming the opposition in front of international guests and stressed the importance of placing national interests above party politics.
