TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a recorded message released on Friday (May 17), Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) called on President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) to remember the original intentions of reform and to ensure transparency in the Legislative Yuan (立法院).

This appeal comes in the wake of violent clashes within the Legislative Yuan, where the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was accused of using force and inappropriate methods, especially against KMT legislator Chen Ching-hui (陳菁徽).

Chu criticized the DPP for humiliating a female KMT legislator during the conflict, emphasizing the need for legislative reform that reflects the people's expectations. He stressed that the purpose of the reform is to enhance the Legislative Yuan's supervisory role, expose injustices, and allow legislators to truly represent public opinion.

Chu's message underscores a significant moment of political tension and the urgent call for a modernized parliament that aligns with Western democratic standards.

Reiterating his message to Lai Ching-te, Chu urged the president-elect not to forget the essence of reform upon assuming office. He highlighted the collective effort required to modernize Taiwan's parliament and bring it to light, akin to parliaments in Western democracies.

Chu's call to action aims to foster a transparent and effective legislative environment that truly serves the Taiwanese people.

As tensions simmer in the Legislative Yuan, Chu's appeal to Lai Ching-te sets the stage for potential political dialogue and reform efforts in the near future, reflecting the ongoing struggle for transparency and democracy in Taiwan's political landscape.
