TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) revealed on Wednesday (May 15) that approximately 50 foreign delegations will attend President-elect Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) inauguration ceremony on May 20.

Among the attendees, delegations from Taiwan's diplomatic allies are mostly heads of state and prime ministers, Wu stated.

He also highlighted that many democratic countries friendly to Taiwan send parliamentary delegations or high-level representatives, in addition to diplomatic allies.

Wu emphasized Taiwan's role as a democratic country, and the new government's assumption of office further signifies that democratic processes are advancing.

The level of participation from countries like Haiti, Guatemala, and Tuvalu, which have recently experienced diplomatic tensions, is particularly noteworthy.

Though acknowledging that the number of Japanese delegates attending has reached a new high, the MOFA has been tight-lipped about the composition of the South Korean delegation.
