TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (台積電, TSMC) addressed its Arizona plant incident on Thursday (May 16), stating that the explosion was caused by an anomaly in the tanker truck used for the external transportation of waste sulfuric acid. A contractor driver inspecting the truck was caught in the accident.

TSMC reassured stakeholders that the explosion would not impact its operational capabilities or the progress of engineering projects at the facility. The site has been secured, and an investigation is underway to prevent future occurrences.

Local fire authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, TSMC emphasized.

An explosion at the TSMC facility in Arizona a day earlier resulted in at least one contractor being seriously injured.

The explosion, which took place near the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Dove Valley Road in North Phoenix, prompted immediate response from the fire departments of Phoenix (鳳凰城), Glendale (格倫代爾), and Daisy Mountain (雛菊山). They were dispatched to manage the aftermath of the blast.
