TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant move to support Hualien's tourism industry, which was devastated by a strong earthquake on April 3, Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) led a two-day staff trip for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to Hualien on May 13-14. This initiative, aimed at bolstering the local economy, directly responds to the quake's impact on the region.
Aiding Recovery Through Tourism
Hsiao, the Vice President-elect, emphasized the importance of practical actions to support Hualien and encouraged more people to visit the area. Hsiao said she hoped inviting party staff to the trip could support Hualien and encourage more participation. This trip is part of a broader effort instructed by DPP Chairman Lai Ching-te (賴清德) to assist in Hualien's recovery and industry revitalization.
Promoting Local Consumption
In addition to the staff trip, Lai has also purchased Hualien's specialties and souvenirs to distribute among party workers and volunteers, aiming to promote local consumption and support Hualien's businesses.
Hsiao highlighted that despite the earthquake's devastation, much of Hualien's beauty remains untouched and called for action to support the region, urging everyone to support Hualien and help the land recover from the disaster.
This initiative reflects the DPP's commitment to Hualien's recovery and belief in the power of community support to overcome the challenges posed by natural disasters. It serves as a call to action for others to contribute to revitalizing Hualien's economy and tourism industry.
