TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's three leading mobile service providers will conduct a nationwide disaster prevention notification test in English and Chinese on Wednesday (May 8) at 4 p.m.

Chunghwa Telecom (中華電信), Taiwan Mobile (台灣大), and Far EasTone Telecommunications (遠傳電信) stated that this initiative is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of Taiwan's residents through timely and efficient communication during emergencies.

Nationwide Alert System Test

The companies announced that when users receive a message, their phones will emit a special warning sound and vibration to alert them. However, they urged the public not to panic upon receiving these notifications.

The "monthly test message" channel is turned off by default on most phones to minimize disturbances to users, with only a small number of customers' phones emitting the special warning sound and vibration.

Commitment to Public Safety

Chunghwa Telecom emphasized its commitment to government policies by continuously conducting unscheduled disaster prevention alert system tests.

Taiwan Mobile is also dedicated to refining the "Public Warning Cell Broadcast Service" and will periodically conduct disaster prevention notification message tests across Taiwan or in specific regions.

Meanwhile, Far EasTone Telecommunications has also stated its intention to continue updating and optimizing the 4G disaster prevention alert cell broadcast message system.
