Fatal food poisoning at Polam Kopitiam claims fourth victim (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Wang Pi-Sheng confirmed Monday (April 29) that the latest death linked to food poisoning at Polam Kopitiam, a popular restaurant, was a 40-year-old woman.
The victim began experiencing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in mid-March after consuming rice noodles. Despite over a month of intensive care treatment, she succumbed to multiple organ failure.
The food poisoning outbreak at Polam Kopitiam, located in a department store in Xinyi District, has now resulted in four fatalities. Currently, two patients remain hospitalized due to the incident. One is undergoing a liver transplant, while the other is receiving treatment in an intensive care unit.
The food poisoning cases linked to Polam Kopitiam first emerged in late March. Since March 19, a total of 35 cases have been reported, with the disease progressing rapidly. The four deaths occurred on March 24, March 27, April 27, and April 29.
