Taiwan sweats under severe heatwave, CWA issues warnings (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures across the island reaching between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius on Monday (April 29), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

The CWA has issued high-temperature warnings for four counties, with temperatures potentially exceeding 36 degrees.

The administration has issued yellow high-temperature warnings for Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung, reminding residents that the hot weather is due to the influence of the southwestern wind. There is also a chance of "Foehn wind" occurring in Taitung.

Despite the heat, scattered brief showers were reported in the central and southern regions Monday morning. Most other areas were partly cloudy to clear, with brief thunderstorms in the afternoon in the north-central, northeastern, and eastern regions and other mountainous areas. Particularly in the southern mountainous regions and southeastern areas, localized temperatures could exceed 36 degrees.

However, the weather is expected to become unstable on Labor Day (May 1), due to a passing front. Brief showers or thunderstorms are likely across the island, with the western half needing to be aware of potential short-term heavy rainfall.

An intensifying northeastern monsoon coupled with rain will bring cooler weather to northern Taiwan, with daytime highs between 25 and 27 degrees and lows around 21 to 22 degrees. Other areas will also see a slight drop in temperatures due to increased cloud cover and rain.
