TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President-elect Lai Ching-te said Thursday (April 25) he would gladly attend a meeting at the Legislative Yuan if invited, in accordance with constitutional and legal arrangements.

His comments came in response to the Kuomintang's (KMT) announcement that they plan to invite him to the Legislative Yuan for a State of the Nation report after May 20.

KMT Chairman Eric Chu, during a central committee meeting, declared the party's intention to establish constitutional conventions with all allies and express their stance on the current constitutional chaos. Chu urged Lai to make the State of the Nation report at the Legislative Yuan, emphasizing Lai's responsibility in establishing constitutional conventions.

In a press conference, Lai pointed out that if he could make the state of the nation report at the Legislative Yuan, he would be the first president in Taiwan's history to do so. Lai stated that if all arrangements could meet constitutional and legal requirements, he would be "duty-bound."
