TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President-elect Lai Ching-te and vice president-elect Hsiao Bi-khim visited the Mainland Affairs Council on Monday (April 22) to learn more about the current cross-strait situation.

According to related news, Beijing's stance against Taiwan toughened following former President Ma Ying-jeou's visit to China in early April, as evidenced by the activation of the M503 flight path. Relations were further strained when anti-dumping duties were applied on imports from Taiwan.

As Lai and Hsiao will assume office on May 20, the deputy chairperson and secretary-general of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Chiu Chui-cheng, is reportedly to take over as the head of the Mainland Affairs Council.

Concurrently, the Straits Exchange Foundation chairperson could be none other than Cheng Wen-tsan, the deputy head of the Executive Yuan. These possible appointments show a dedication to amicable and reasonable discussions. These personnel arrangements, nevertheless, have not yet been confirmed.
