TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA) renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS) and the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) on Monday (April 22), to strengthen marine conservation and science education efforts.

The OCA announced plans to open the "Central Taiwan Marine Conservation Education Center" (中台灣海洋保育教育中心) in collaboration with the NMNS in July 2024.

The marine center will integrate the museum's marine life, ecology exhibits, display, and science education research professionals. It will also promote the importance of marine wildlife habitats and wetland conservation, the OCA unveiled.

The OCA has a five-year foundation of cooperation with both museums. The partnership was deepened on World Earth Day, to promote comprehensive marine conservation work.

In addition, the OCA has been working with the NMMBA's rescue center on a project to care for, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles. From 2020 to March 2024, 76 turtles were taken in, with 40 successfully released back into the wild.
