Taoyuan City grapples with frequent power outages (TVBS News)

TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taoyuan City Deputy Mayor Wang Ming-Jiuh on Friday (April 19) addressed the issue of 8 power outages within 3 days, stating that due to climate change, the increasing heat in March and April resulted in a significant surge in electricity consumption. Taipower's equipment issues have also led to insufficient power supply.

Taipower, however, clarified that the problem was not a lack of electricity, but rather issues with aging equipment.

Wang believes there is an indirect connection between the two, as insufficient voltage can lead to power outages and impact equipment.

While Wang does not support nuclear power, he emphasized the need for a stable power supply. He argued that energy should not rely solely on one source, as each method of power generation has its pros and cons. He urged the government to conduct a comprehensive assessment to prevent unexpected power outages.

Wang also called attention to Taiwan's Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant, which has already cost NT$300 billion to build and could significantly contribute to a stable power supply. He expressed hope that the new cabinet members would seriously consider the energy issue.
