TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Transportation Committee of the Legislative Yuan passed the preliminary review of the Electronic Signatures Act amendment on Monday (April 15).
According to the amendment, electronic signatures and documents that meet the standards are functionally comparable to physical ones, and their electronic form cannot be used as a justification for denying their legal validity.
Ministry of Digital Affairs is optimistic about the amendment; it believes it will encourage the widespread use of electronic signatures, increase efficiency, cut costs, ensure transaction security, and lessen environmental burdens.
To close the digital gap, The amendment requires the authority to support national and local administrative agencies in developing hardware and software for electronic signatures.
Additionally, the authority should gather data on the application status of electronic signatures regularly, conduct pertinent research on market demands and international rules, and publish the results once a year.
