TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards are set to take place Sunday (April 14). Taiwanese actor Wu Kang-jen, who recently won the Golden Horse Awards for Best Actor, is in the running for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Fly Me to the Moon."
In "Fly Me to the Moon," Wu portrays a failed father, a role that spans from his character's 40s to 60s. Wu mastered Hunan dialect and Cantonese for the film.
The Malaysian film "Abang Adik," which earned Wu his Golden Horse award, is also nominated for Best Asian Chinese Film. "Abang Adik" will compete against Taiwanese films "The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon" and "Marry My Dead Body," as well as Chinese films "Full River Red" and "No More Bets."
"The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon" achieved a box office miracle in China, grossing over NT$ 1 billion. "Abang Adik" also reached the NT$ 1 billion mark in Taiwan, demonstrating the strong capabilities of Taiwanese performers in the arts.
