TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Health and Welfare's Hualien disaster relief project has raised nearly NT$ 580 million as of Wednesday (April 10), according to the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief. The foundation hopes to continue providing aid for reconstruction efforts.

A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien on April 3, causing severe damage. The Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, launched the "0403 Hualien Earthquake Fundraising Project" on April 4. Eight days after the earthquake, the total number of donations reached 129,542. Donations can be made until May 3.

The Central Emergency Operation Center stated that the earthquake response work has shifted from emergency response to recovery and reconstruction. Road construction controls, gas supply, water supply, and base station repair operations are still underway.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Ministry of Economic Affairs will continue to monitor the progress of the recovery and reconstruction. The Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief will follow policy research to formulate appropriate plans during the recovery and reconstruction phase.
