TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Climate Change Administration of the Ministry of Environment is leaning towards convening the third Carbon Fee Rate Review Councils in late April, Deputy Director-General Huang Wei-ming announced Monday (April 8). Huang added that the exact date still needs further discussion.

The Carbon Fee Rate Review Councils previously held two meetings in March but did not reach a conclusion. The council explained during previous meetings that they hoped future discussions would be based on scientific foundations and had requested the Ministry of Environment to provide a draft of the carbon pricing sub-law.

The Ministry of Environment announced that the next meeting is scheduled for late April, and the draft will be announced beforehand. On March 13, the ministry released the names of the 21 members of the first Carbon Fee Rate Review Council and held the first review meeting on March 15 and the second on March 26.

The second review meeting discussed carbon fee rates based on science and aimed to establish rates for each stage before 2030.

There are still some disagreements about the set targets. Some believe the targets are too high to achieve, while others think they are too low to effectively reduce carbon emissions. Huang emphasized that the council will strive to complete the three draft announcements before the review meeting and will "do it as soon as possible."

The Ministry of Environment still hopes to officially charge for this year's carbon emissions in 2025.
