TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang expressed on Monday (April 1) his hopes for a "cooling down" of U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication with both sides to avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments.

This statement comes as Laura Rosenberger, chair of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), visits Taiwan to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and President-elect Lai Ching-te. Concurrently, former President Ma Ying-jeou is visiting China.

Rosenberger has visited Taiwan multiple times, and Chiang believes that neither her visit nor Ma's trip to China is intended to "heat up" relations but rather to cool them down.

Chiang stated that Rosenberger's visit is likely to convey the U.S.'s desire for dialogue, including on U.S. policy towards Taiwan and cross-strait relations. He stressed the need for more dialogue to avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments.

In the current climate of geopolitical tension, Chiang highlighted the importance of effectively reducing regional geopolitical risks and maintaining stable and peaceful cross-strait relations, which he said are the expectations of the people and businesses investing in Taiwan.

Regarding Ma's 11-day visit to China, Chiang respected Ma's itinerary, stating that cross-strait exchanges should be diverse and multi-layered. He emphasized the common desire for stability in the Taiwan Strait and peace across the strait, allowing everyone to live peacefully and happily.
