Taiwan faces rising temperatures: CWA (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — According to an analysis by the Central Weather Administration (CWA) and academic institutions, Taiwan's temperature has risen by approximately 1.5 degrees Celsius over the past century.

While the annual rainfall has remained relatively stable, the number of rainy days has decreased, indicating an increase in the frequency of heavy rainfall over short periods, the report suggested.

The report also stated that future weather trends will include shorter winters, longer summers, an increase in extreme high temperatures, a decrease in spring rain, an increase in heavy rainfall during the plum rain season, and an increase in the intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall.

Meanwhile, the administration noted that the number of typhoons hitting Taiwan is expected to decrease, but their intensity and rainfall are predicted to increase.

In response to drought conditions, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications said the CWA continuously develops a new generation of severe weather monitoring systems. These systems are designed to provide customized services that meet the needs of the Water Resources Agency, including a drought index monitoring and early warning system.
