TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Department of Legal Affairs of the Taipei City Government assured on Sunday (March 31) that victims of food poisoning from the A13 branch will have their insurance covered by Far Eastern Department Stores.
Director Lien Tang-kai stated that they had invited Food Republic and Tokio Marine Newa Insurance Co. for a meeting. It has been confirmed that Cathay Century Insurance Co. of Far Eastern can cover the Polam Kopitiam incident, with coverage amounting to hundreds of millions. If the policy of Tokio Marine Newa Insurance Co. at Food Republic can also cover the incident, the coverage will increase.
The Department of Legal Affairs further stated that any compensation within the operational scope of Polam Kopitiam in A13 will be included in the claim, and there will be no issue of lack of funds for compensation.
A suspected food poisoning incident at the "Polam Kopitiam" in the Food Republic of the A13 Far Eastern Department Stores in Xinyi District, Taipei, has resulted in two deaths, with reported cases reaching 31.
The Taipei City Government stated that it will penalize each case individually. For situations where product liability insurance has not been legally insured, the maximum penalty can be NT$ 3 million.
