TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plans to visit the new Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) factory in Kumamoto Prefecture on Wednesday (April 6), according to media reports.
The TSMC's new factory in Kumamoto opened in February, with a second factory expected to start construction in 2024. Kishida's visit will focus on confirming the readiness of the new TSMC factory for mass production.
The Japanese government continues strengthening domestic semiconductor production infrastructure to ensure the semiconductor supply chain.
It plans to provide a subsidy of up to JPY 1.2 trillion to assist TSMC in establishing a new factory in Kumamoto Prefecture.
