TSMC leads semiconductor market with 61% share in Q4 2023

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) continues to dominate the global semiconductor foundry market, holding a 61% market share in the fourth quarter of 2023, according to research firm Counterpoint.

The study also revealed that Samsung, TSMC's closest competitor, held approximately 14% of the global market share, ranking second.

Counterpoint noted that the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications drove the prominence of 4-nanometer and 5-nanometer process technologies in the last quarter of 2023.

United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and GlobalFoundries each held a 6% market share, tying for third place in the global semiconductor foundry market.

Meanwhile, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) held approximately 5% of the market share.
