Taiwan‘s Land Planning Project faces implementation hurdles (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of Interior, Lin Yu-chang, emphasized the importance of smooth implementation of the National Land Planning Project during a legislative interview on Wednesday (March 27). The emphasis came in response to numerous lawmakers voicing concerns about local difficulties and issues.
The new National Land Planning Project is expected to be implemented next year, and local governments are required to submit their "County and City National Land Function Zoning Maps" to the Ministry of Interior (MOI) by the end of June this year. However, only three counties and cities have submitted so far.
Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan is scheduled to convene a cross-departmental meeting on April 1 to discuss the necessity of extending the timeline.
In addition to the land planning project, Lin also discussed the draft of the "Pedestrian Traffic Safety Facilities Act." The draft aims to improve the overall pedestrian environment, particularly in terms of safety. It sets out related regulations, such as how to retract to increase sidewalks and signal settings.
Regarding local government responsibilities, the central government has also made demands. Lin stressed that this is a very important bill for them and expressed hope that lawmakers would support it.
