TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hsinchu, often referred to as "Taiwan's Silicon Valley," is home to the newly established Semiconductor College at Minghsin University of Science and Technology in the city's suburbs. According to related reports, nearly 700 hail from Vietnam of the 2,300 students enrolled,
The report wrote that one Vietnamese student shared his plans to work in Taiwan for three to four years after graduation, aiming to gain experience.
The competition for talent in the semiconductor industry is intensifying, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) alone hiring over 6,000 employees annually.
The report suggests that Taiwan is turning to Southeast Asian students as a source of workforce for the semiconductor industry, due to a potential shrinkage in the high-tech talent pool caused by the country's declining birth rate.
As advancements in generative AI and other technologies continue, the demand for chips is expected to grow. Meanwhile, given Taiwan's reliance on the semiconductor industry, the government, businesses, and educational institutions are facing the pressure to devise long-term strategies to ensure a steady supply of employees.
