TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tsengwen Reservoir's water storage rate has fallen below 50% as of Monday (March 25), but the Southern Region Water Resources Branch assesses Tainan's overall water situation as stable.
They anticipate that all water usage targets can be stably supplied before the onset of the plum rain season.
The Tsengwen Reservoir currently bears the responsibility of supplying irrigation water, as it is the first period of miscellaneous paddy and spring irrigation in the Chiayi-Tainan irrigation area this year.
The spring miscellaneous irrigation has been largely completed, and the first period of paddy irrigation is expected to continue until mid-June.
The combined water storage rate of Tainan's three major reservoirs is about 50%. Although the water situation is stable, the water situation lights in the northern Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli regions and the central Taichung region were changed to green, representing a water situation reminder, on March 19.
The Tainan City Government and the central government are closely monitoring changes in the water situation and are responding through various water-saving measures such as the clear water northward flow of the Gaoping River, enhanced water-saving irrigation in agriculture, and the activation of 5% autonomous water-saving by industrial units.
According to the observation data of the Southern Region Water Resources Branch, the water storage volume of the Tsengwen Reservoir is 249.48 million cubic meters, with a water storage rate of 49.43%; the Wushantou Dam's water storage volume is 49.38 million cubic meters, with a water storage rate of 62.93%; the Nanhua Dam's water storage volume is 36.98 million cubic feet, with a water storage rate of 41.32%.
