TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) reported Monday (March 25) that it detected five Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels operating near the Taiwan Strait within the past 24 hours.
The MND said one of the Chinese aircraft crossed the median line of the Strait, intruding into Taiwan's southwestern airspace. In response, Taiwan's military deployed its own aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based air defense missiles to closely monitor and handle the situation.
The MND's statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Taiwan Strait, a 180-kilometer-wide body of water that separates the self-governing island from China. Beijing has ramped up its military activities near Taiwan in recent years, often sending planes and ships to the area in a show of force.
Taiwan has repeatedly called on China to cease its military provocations and respect its sovereignty. The island's defense forces remain on high alert, ready to respond to any potential threats.
The MND did not provide further details about the type of Chinese military aircraft and naval vessels detected or their exact locations. It said it would continue to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures to ensure Taiwan's security.
