MIAOLI (TVBS News) — Miaoli Baishatun Gongtian Temple's Matsu festival parade set off at 0:35 a.m. on Monday (March 18), heading towards Yunlin Beigang Chaotian Temple in a journey expected to last nine days and eight nights.

On the preceding day, President Tsai made a special visit to the Baishatun Gongtian Temple, paying respects and purifying the palanquin of Matsu. Two days before Matsu's departure, Baishatun transformed into a city that never sleeps as countless believers began to flock into Tongxiao Township in Miaoli. Each year, the Baishatun Matsu pilgrimage attracts a massive number of participants. This year, approximately 180,000 people are involved, setting a new record in the pilgrimage's history.

Furthermore, the event has attracted many foreign visitors, reflecting the international prominence that this festival activity has achieved.
