TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen announced on Thursday (March 14) that a "Food Safety Integration Conference" will be convoked tomorrow, involving relevant departments and local governments. In addition, he has plans to establish a "Food Safety Protection Fund".

During a cabinet meeting, the Premier made these remarks addressing the food safety event involving Sudan Red chili powder.

He suggested that the event showcases the necessity for a comprehensive review of the current system, including border inspections, post-market auditing, autonomous management reporting, and track and trace systems.

He requested the relevant departments to conduct an immediate review and ensure improvements.

Premier Chen mentioned the government's initiatives for border inspections, stating that 100% inspection has been conducted on all dry chili and chili powder imported from every country, to prevent its use in downstream manufacturing.

He emphasized that post-market management needs to be strengthened, with food industries expected to manage themselves, carry out independent inspections, and affirm the safety of raw materials. Any anomalies must be reported actively to the health authority.

Premier Chen added that future endeavors will see government management, industry autonomy, and public participation working together to enhance food safety management efficiency.
