TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In light of the tragic incident involving the abuse and subsequent death of a 1-year-old boy by his babysitter, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an on Thursday (March 14) proposed the establishment of a centralized coordination mechanism.

Speaking at the Executive Yuan meeting, Chiang proposed "Four Directions," including a joint mechanism between the central and local governments, implementation of the Project of Holistic Physicians for Young Children, comparable standards for interim placements and foster care, and the establishment of a national platform for evaluating babysitters.

Chiang called on the central authorities to improve social safety nets, facilitating the instantaneous sharing of case information across municipalities and enhancing social safety nets through reporting mechanisms.

In addition, Chiang proposed strengthening the "Project of Holistic Physicians for Young Children,” as the current coverage of this system is less than 50%. Chiang hopes central and local governments can implement it more thoroughly and comprehensively.

Regarding the interim placement of children, Chiang believes foster babysitter qualifications should be equivalent to foster home standards.

Chiang also proposed that the central government establish a national platform for evaluating babysitters. This platform would enable parents and those in need to find the most suitable and safest babysitters.
