TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Kang Chiao International School (KCIS) bus overturned had 8 prior records of violation over the past six years, and the bus driver also had two violations within the same period, the Highway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) confirmed on Monday (March 11) evening.

The ill-fated school bus, a Long Lai transportation company built in 2014, had a valid license, the Bureau stated.

The Kang Chiao school bus capsized Monday evening while transiting through the Wenshan Tunnel in Taipei City's Wenshan District. Onboard were 26 students and one driver.

A total of 15 persons, including the driver, were lightly injured and sent to the hospital, after the Taipei City police and firefighters rushed to the scene upon receiving the report.

According to the Bureau, by 11 p.m. on Monday, only one victim remained under observation at Wanfang Hospital, while traffic resumed at the crash site.

In response to the incident, school officials stated they would first ascertain the cause of the accident with the driver at fault. In the worst-case scenario, the school would terminate the contract with the driver, and there might even be penalties for the school bus company.
