VP-elect Hsiao Bi-khim‘s U.S. trip: Personal, not political (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) clarified on Monday (March 11) that Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim's upcoming personal trip to the U.S. is not for diplomatic purposes but to take care of personal matters, including house moving and friends visiting.
The comments were made by the party spokesperson, Justin Wu, amid speculations that Hsiao was traveling to assist President-Elect Lai Ching-te in diplomacy ahead of their inauguration set for May 20.
Lin Yu-chan, a spokesperson for the Presidential Office, also stated that the office had not received any related information.
Four years ago, before his inauguration as vice president, Lai made a high-profile visit to the U.S. as the vice president-elect. He attended the National Prayer Breakfast with then-U.S. President Trump and later had an extensive 70-minute meeting with U.S. officials at the White House. However, as of now, no such plans have been announced for Hsiao.
