BEIJING (TVBS News) — China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Sunday (March 10) that Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs, Li Hui, held profound discussions with State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Thomas Bagger, with the dialogue focused on Sino-German relations, the situation in Ukraine, and peace negotiations.
The two diplomats conducted their discussions a day earlier, with China expressing hope for a particularly engaging peace conference to pave the way for an imminent end to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
Li disclosed his mediatory missions among Russia, Ukraine, and European countries over the last week, warning of an escalating risk of conflict.
Li's shuttle diplomacy received recognition from Bagger, who also expressed gratitude for China's role in attempting to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Bagger acknowledged a shared understanding between Germany and China on the current crisis situation, its future direction, and prospects of peace talks.
Bagger stated both nations possess a consensus on various aspects of the crisis and its expected progression and are willing to maintain open lines of communication on the matter.
The Russia-Ukrainian conflict, which has been raging for more than two years, is not aligned with the benefits of most of the international community, including Sino-German relations, Li emphasized in the meeting.
