TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul announced on Thursday (March 7) that he would lead a delegation to Taiwan to attend the presidential inauguration of President-elect Lai Ching-te on May 20.

McCaul made the remarks during an event at the Taiwan Representative Office in Washington D.C., celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act.

In related news, the inauguration ceremony is expected to be similar in scale to President Tsai Ing-wen's first inauguration in 2016, as her re-inauguration in 2020 was kept simple due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presidential Office spokesperson Olivia Lin stated that arrangements for the inauguration ceremony are still being discussed. More detailed plans will be announced and explained when available.

In addition to Taiwan's diplomatic allies, countries with friendly relations, including the United States and Japan, will also send representatives to attend the ceremony, the report noted.
