TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Thursday (March 7) that it is set to host the Taiwan Gender Equality Week (TGEW) in cooperation with Taiwanese NGOs, in New York City with the aim of promoting women's economic empowerment.
The initiative will run in conjunction with the 68th session of the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), slated for March 11-22, 2024.
The highlight of TGEW is the "Taiwan Forum & Taiwan Women's Cultural Experience," which will take place at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on March 13 at the Taipei Economic and Culturlal Office in New York. The forum will focus on the theme of "Fostering Women and Girls' Financial Resilience."
The event will feature influential speakers such as Dr. Hank C.C. Huang, president of the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, who will share successful models of women empowerment through economic and finance decision-making roles.
Notable attendees include Denise Scotto, vice-president of the International Federation of Women in Legal Careers (FIFCJ), and Kelley Currie, former Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues.
The forum, due to be live-streamed on the MOFA's YouTube and Facebook channels, will be followed by a cultural experience event celebrating the progress and achievements of Taiwanese women.
This year, Taiwanese NGOs and local governments will host 33 meetings during the CSW to share Taiwan's experience and achievements in promoting women's economic empowerment.
The theme of CSW this year will focus on addressing poverty and strengthening institutional financing through the lens of gender equality.
