HUALIEN (TVBS News) —Yuli Hospital, under the ambit of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, is championing efforts to promote dementia-friendly organizations in Taiwan. These include community branches and outlets of the Land Bank of Taiwan and Family Mart that have sent their employees to the hospital for dementia training.
This initiative aims to heighten the understanding and awareness of dementia. With 96% of Taiwan's dementia population being seniors aged 65 and above, the number of people affected nationwide surpasses 300,000, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare statistics.
Yuli Hospital director of nursing Huang Pei-chi said dementia patients may face recurring issues such as withdrawing money multiple times, asking the same questions repetitively, and being unsure of how to handle procedures at the banks. Shopping at stores may also pose problems for these patients who may not find products, lose direction, purchase identical items excessively, or forget to pay.
The hospital encourages more businesses to join and actively contribute to creating a dementia-friendly environment for the elderly.
