Technical glitch takes down Meta platforms for hours (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meta, the internet technology company that owns social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, suffered a significant global outage due to technical issues on Tuesday (March 5) evening, affecting hundreds of thousands of users.
According to reports, the interruption lasted more than two hours before services returned to normal.
Also impacted were Meta's integrated apps, Threads and Messenger, which have since recovered along with Facebook and Instagram.
Similar issues were reported in Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, the United States and Hungary.
Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, communicated through social media that "Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
The blackout led to a flurry of feedback on PTT, Taiwan's largest online bulletin board, with users expressed their annoyance at being unable to see new posts on Instagram and their surprise at the number of people still using Facebook.
One user even relished in the temporary peace, lamenting the swift resolution of the outage.
