Taichung secures sufficient water supply through May (TVBS News)
TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — The Water Resources Agency (WRA) assured Wednesday (March 6) that the supply of water in Taichung is ample at present and is expected to remain so until May.
Daily water consumption in Taichung ranges between 1.4 and 1.5 million tons and is predominantly sourced from the Liyutan and Techi Reservoirs.
The director of the WRA Central Region Water Resources Center branch, Chuang Yao-cheng, stated that the Liyutan Reservoir is operating at 46.5% of its capacity, with an effective storage volume of 53.76 million cubic meters, while the Techi Reservoir is at 69%, with an effective storage volume of 130.28 million cubic meters. Therefore, there is no immediate concern of shortage for these main water sources.
Meanwhile, the water supply of the Shihmen Reservoir in the Northern region is under strain as its current storage capacity is below half.
Chuang reported that agricultural supplies in the central region commenced on Feb. 15, ensuring unhindered spring farming irrigation. He stated that the WRA will continue monitoring spring rainfall in March to maintain water management.
