TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Chung-kwang on Friday (March 1) announced that Taiwan will soon increase flights to Palau in an effort to strengthen cooperation and bolster tourism opportunities.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Chung Chia-pin hosted an establishment meeting for the Taiwan and Palau Parliamentary Friendship Association and the Taiwan and Asia Pacific Parliamentary New Energy Promotion Alliance on Friday, where Palauan Ambassador to Taiwan David Adams Orrukem, Deputy Minister Tien Chung-kwang, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Legislative Yuan Chang Yu-jung were invited to participate in the meeting.

Taiwan and Palau, which established diplomatic ties in 1999, have enjoyed cooperative relationships in various spheres, including tourism and arts. Palau has also been a staunch supporter of Taiwan’s participation in international activities.

Tien noted that Taiwan and Palau's cooperation in tourism, culture, and marine conservation has already paid off significantly.

According to Orrukem, four Palauan leaders are slated for a future visit to Taiwan and he highlighted environmental conservation and climate change as Palau's top priorities.

As a symbol of friendship between Taiwan and Palau, Orrukem sang a traditional Palauan song at the meeting, while Chung responded in the language of the Paiwan tribe of Pingtung.
