Community mourns fallen officer Su Yu-hung in Keelung (TVBS News)
KEELUNG (TVBS News) — In the wake of Thursday's (Feb. 29) tragedy that resulted in the death of a 24-year-old officer named Su Yu-hung at the Badu Police Station in Keelung City, the family of the fallen officer returned to the scene of his death on Friday (March 1) for a soul-calling ritual.
Colleagues from the police station lined up to bid farewell, bowing solemnly in tribute.
After the ritual's conclusion, the visibly distraught station chief Deng Yu-hsun broke down, declaring Su's "duty has ended, and may he rest in peace!”
Numerous police officers present could not hold back their tears at these poignantly final words.
The station had been targeted by a devastating assault on the night of Feb. 29 when a small truck, hijacked from Aodi Fishing Port by a mentally-troubled man identified as Mr. Chien, was driven into the station.
Su, who was on duty at the time, succumbed to his injuries. A female officer named Liao, also 24, suffered slight injuries.
The rampage had also claimed the life of a 38-year-old man, surnamed Liu, as the truck hit him on the way to the station.
Su, a diligent and dedicated professional as described by his peers, joined the Badu Branch in October last year after graduating from the police academy.
A passionate officer, Su's dedication to his duty was aptly reflected in a post shared by the "Keelung Police Xinyun" Facebook page on Jan. 26 this year, hailing Su's efforts in providing warmth amid the cold winter.
