TAINAN (TVBS News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che said on Friday (March 1) that he supports a thorough investigation into an alleged solar power plant scandal involving an energy firm in Tainan.
Speaking to the press, Huang reiterated his stance, stating the probe should "fix wherever problems exist," expressing his hopes for the case's swift resolution.
Ysolar Co., under the charge of former Executive Yuan Commissioner Ku Sheng-hui, is accused of illegally obtaining land to house solar power plants in Tainan.
City officials handling the business application noticed discrepancies in the paperwork. Allegations from city staff also surfaced claiming that the former head of Tainan City Government's Economic Development Bureau Chen Kai-ling had directed that this case was considered "assigned by superiors."
The Tainan prosecutor's office is investigating this scandal, and Mayor Huang has been subpoenaed as a witness. Huang expressed support for the investigative approach and hopes for rapid clarification.
At the beam-raising ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Baseball Complex, Huang commented on relevant concerns, emphasizing all matters require openness and honesty, highlighting several issues demanding clarity during a 2022 investigation, including relations between the government, the business community, project units and local forces.
Huang also stressed the country's commitment to solar and green energy development, stating it should not be stigmatized due to specific cases.
He underscored the importance of continuing all construction, applications, and arrangements within legal guidelines in a world firmly backing cleaner, green energy.
This, Huang said, is something everyone must steadfastly uphold.
