CDC announces flu vaccines open to public from March 5 (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) revealed on Tuesday (Feb. 27) that government-funded flu vaccines will be accessible on March 5 to those who have not yet been inoculated for over six months, following reports of surpassing 110,000 flu cases in a single week.

The CDC stated that over 112,486 cases were reported from Feb. 18 to 24, indicating that the flu is still peaking.

Due to the high risk of infection possibly instigated by the congregation of people during the recent Lantern Festival and the 228 Memorial Day, the CDC advised people to stay vigilant of their health conditions and seek early medical care.

The CDC noted that over 6.5 million doses of government-funded flu vaccines have been distributed nationally. Yet, only 53.4% of the elderly population aged 65 and above have been vaccinated, falling short of the targeted rate of 55%.

Since stocks of government-funded flu vaccines are down to around 70,000 doses, vaccines will be made available to those eligible from March 5 until the supply is depleted.
